New pump housing & impeller, new thermostat. (double checked pump after it still overheats) E60tlcod.
Teltale has a detectable by feel "pulsing" and sporatically spits out air or steam. As I pull the head off what should I be looking for that may be causing the sqirley water stream? could the "pressure relief" valve be the culprit? I'm sure It's never been replaced and I don't have experience with them. Could a blown head gasket cause this? ( It did everheat pretty good to the point of nearly stopping engine before I changed pump & thermostat ; faulty Alarm Horn) Overheat sensor is good as I checked it with an infrared thermometer as engine comes up to approx 212F before sounding new horn.
If it's not the pump or thermostat what is the next few probable causes and is the next step to pull the head or is there something else I'm missing I can try before the head coming off?
Thanks for any possible help!!!!

could it be possible that your pump is picking up air? Is one of the tubes rotted out?

If it is a tube how can I check for a "leaK"? Freshwater use only. Part of "copper" tube I can see sticking out of the foot area ( just a few inches looks good w/o any corrosion at that location.

If freshwater use only, not likely going to be corrosion then. Can you take bottom end off, put in tank, then turn the driveshaft with a big drill maybe?? See if the pump has good output?

Thanks, I guess I should give that a try.
I have to figure out how to chuck up onto the splined end of the driveshaft.
Do you have any ideas how to do that?
When I removed the pump I saw detectable scoring of the steel backing plate ( .010 inch max )where impeller blades rubbed against it. plate and pump assy. only had a few hours of use and I was surprised to see that kind of wear. (No sand or abrasive runnng environment.)
Could kockeyed plate (not resting flush on foot mating surface) cause impeller "binding" and thus restrict flow? Wear patern on plate surface as I recollect was not full circumference but rather say 180 or so of revolution.
Where the wear was relative to the pickup slot on plate I can't remember.
If this "binded" the impeller could this be the source of "steam or air occasionally coming out with the water @ telltale? Could this be the source of the pulsing I felt of the stream?

Really hard to say what's causing your problem, I don't have allot of troubleshooting experience with overheating outboards. Cant remember how to turn the shaft, I've seen it done in a video, I'll try to find it. The wear on the plate seems excessive for that much use, I just did a pump in my old motor and the plate had no wear.

From what I've gathered the steam/air I'm seing is an exhaust leak. Not good news, maybe just a head gasket maybe gasketing that requires powerhead to come off but I'm going to try a new plate at the pump and change head gasket first. Thanks.
