I recently put a water pump kit in my '85 Merc 75 outboard. When I got it apart, I realized it probably didnt need it as the impeller was in good shape, but I put the new one in anyway for safe measure.

Anyway, when I put muffs on the motor and run it, I dont get a real strong stream of water coming out the water outlet. Water does come out steadily, but it's not blasting out of there. I dont know if this is normal or not. Should I worry? How can I make sure it's getting enough circulation. If there is a problem, what could it be?

Thanks! Vince

Vince,

Is it worse than it was before?

Could be some junk in the line clogging it. If the motor doesnt run hot it should be ok.... Those motors should shoot a steady stream of water.

See, that's the problem. I dont know what it was like before since the first time I'm running it is now. Its coming out steadily, but it's not blasting out of there like I envisioned.

hmm, after a little more reading, maybe its because the thermostat wasn't open yet. Can anyone tell me if this motor has a thermostat, and if so, where would I locate it?

I think it's a 1985, but I'm not sure...

have you run it in the water yet.mine is the same way. once its in the water and running it shoots a pretty good stream.
