well the guy had #3 wired backwards from the trigger I have spark @ all 3 cylinders its ready to fire I have a couple of concerns
1) I had to get a new woodruf key seems to have gone on right but Ive had them shear on a mower and ruiend the crank.
2) the trigger arm that comes out looks like it moves when I throttle up is this suppose to be connected to that blue arm off the block that moves it or is it suppose to just bump it over? It has a small scew going through it
3) how do I know if its firing in the correct firing order like a car it will backfire at start up?
waiting to fire until I hear some opnions don't want to mess this motor up

Thanks

Re: 1985 85hp force/ FOUND SPARK!!!!

Glad you found the spark.

The timing is controlled by the trigger. The tower shaft is connected to the trigger via an adjustable coupling. This is where you adjust your timing. (see manual) This shaft is connected to the carbs. The adjustment of these linkages is usually referred to as a "link and sync".

You don't have to worry about which cylinder fires first as long as you have the trigger and stator wired to the CDI boxes properly. Since they are color coded, the only way you should be able to screw this up is if you are color blind.

The OEM, Clymer and Seloc manuals explain rigging the carbs and timing well enough. If you need clarification, search for Frank Acampora's post as he is a better in giving written instructions than I am.

As long as the taper in the flywheel and the crank shaft are mating correctly, and the nut is torqued correctly, the key should be fine. The taper will do most of the holding.
The trigger should be hooked up the the throttle linkage by using the threaded stud. This is an adjustment for your ignition timing. You should set this before starting up the engine. Check your manual on what to set it to.
The firing order is controlled by the trigger. As long as you have the plug wire connected to the right plugs, you should be o.k. there. My 125 hp. coils from top to bottom hook up to the plugs from top to bottom. In other words, top coil, top plug, 2nd coil, 2nd plug ect...

You can probably do that to see how it runs at low speeds. It will be guesswork as to setting the trigger to the appropriate advance needed per a given throttle setting.

Looking at the engine, I believe the trigger lever should be all the way to the right when in WOT. You can probably use your timing light to find TDC which is where it usually runs at idle.

The only thing behind the carb on two stroke engines is the reed valves. They can get damaged from repeated back fires and over reving the engine but they are not like a filter screen that can get clogged up.
