Ciera2450 , if you are going to have 4 support brackets, then your 1.5" of thickness at the perimeter should certainly suffice. If you were going with only 2 brackets/struts, then you'd want to be about 3" thick at the perimeter, for added strength/stiffness.

Do you have a picture or dimensions of the 'L' brackets?

Ted, I haven’t found the brackets just yet. Lol
i may have to go with aluminum angle, SS is proving hard to track down. The factory platform used aluminum backers behind the plastic and it held up for 40 years.

Still hunting for the “angle iron” brackets for the transom thru bolt attaching points. What about a flange of plywood (or 2x6”???) glassed in as part of the platform? I’m worried these would be a weak point In the platform structure.... thoughts? This approach would allow me to easily add the needed angle to the flange to match the transom angle.
There are four mounting locations about 2’ apart across the transom with 2 vertical thru bolt locations 3.5” apart...In addition to the four angled supports that I’ve got sorted out using the old platform hardware. I’m trying to make use of the existing holes in the outer transom skin to save some work!

Sorry gents! My internet has been down for 3 days! The boat work has continued on! Got the engine bay gelcoated and started wiring things. I can’t do a whole lot of it until my heat/sound insulation stuff arrives as lots of the hosing, wiring, etc mounts on top of it.

Ive been working on the platform and will soon have it mocked up on the boat. I’ll be sure to get pics and your advice before I start glassing all of it. I made “flanges” where it will thru bolt to the boat. In the pics the center flange will have two thru bolts toward the outer sides, 2 vertical bolts each. The outer flanges will have 1 pair of vertical thru bolts each. Open to thoughts on this approach.... remember there will be 4 other supports holding up the aft end of the platform.

I finally have the shape just right. Either side of the transom angles/curves and was very tricky to get the platform just right and of course each side was slightly different.
I will have to sand the curve into both outer flanges to match the hull.

Not much to report. Spent the day cleaning and vacuuming all the fib glass dust out of the cabin area. It was covered everywhere! Even in closed storage areas....
also pulled her out of the carport and washed her down and cleaned the engine bay thoroughly. It’ll be nice to not get filthy every time I climb in he boat. :laugh:

I hosed it all out with a garden hose. Then shop vac. Then towels. Grinding dust is a very elusive prey.

It is very elusive! The cabin is all cloth Upholstey and carpeted. Shop vac was my only option. I’m sure I’ll have to repeat many times but the majority is gone.

Hi all! Boat progress continues. Really trying to knock it out soon, it’ll be warm very soon!

ive started all the wiring and reinstalling everything in he engine bay. I also got heat/sound insulation stuff that I’ve wrapped the forward bulkhead and both sides. I’ll also cover the deck lid.
Wet sanded and compounded the exterior transom before anything was mounted to make life easier. Got the trim tabs refurbed and mounted, deck drain thru hulls installed, and tons of wiring rehab in the engine bay.

Hoping to to get back on the platform build tomorrow. I’ll get some pics of all I’ve done.

Oh... got the berth floor gelcoated as well. If you recall, I removed a large chunk of it to get the tank out.

The transom shield is just test fitted. Didn’t get pics of berth gelcoat cause I’m lazy and didn’t wanna climb up in the boat. Lol
paintd the trim tab cylinders and installed he dynamat stuff... wiring is tedious.

Still here! Got caught up with work to make boat $$$

got my engine back from machine shop after they had to hone a head and mill the intake slightly to solve my sealing issue. It’s all back together waiting to lift her back in their when my flywheel rubber ring seal arrives. Swim platform is nearly there... got two layers of 1708 on the underside. Today, I sanded the top and edges prepping for two mor layers. First, I over drilled all the thru bolt holes and filled with PB, then a quick coat of resin to the raw wood. Rain coming now, hope to glass tomorrow. I’ll final sand it all and gelcoat. Then nonskid, then a final layer of waxed gel.

Transom shield is installed, engine bay wiring and batteries installed....progress!!!

Yes! That is an auto dizzy.... once I confirm my intake is sealed I have a delco EST billet marine ready to go. I was try g everything prior to the intake\head machine work.

Getting the glass to wrap the support pieces that mount the platform to the hull was a PITA!! Lots of grinding out and redoing.

Almost ready for water!
