Two questions here: has anyone swapped out the Force 50 on a 14' Capri for something else; and what's the max HP rating for the hull? I'd really love to put a Honda back there...Thanks!

Welcome to iboats!

I think 50 HP is the rating for that hull. No Coast Guard capacity plate/sticker, I take it?

Keep in mind that the Force outboards are about the lightest weight for their HP of any manufacturer. A Honda 50 four-stroke is going to be much heavier, which may upset the handling of the boat; it will certainly reduce the passenger and gear weight you can safely carry.

An Evinrude E-Tec might be a better match. The weight is less than a four-stroke (but still a bit more than your Force), but it will put out a full 50 HP at the prop (unlike your Force).

Max rating is 50hp / 4 persons/ 780 lbs. I have the same boat. Still running the Force 50...

I have the same boat. I don't know what condition your motor is in but when I got mine I did a few things impeller, fuel pump kit, plugs, wires, prop (because the other one was pretty bad). These motors have a bad rep but are actually really great motors. They are very easy to work on as well. If you need any help post on here or send me a message I would be glad to help. I just wouldn't swap motors unless you absolutley have to. If you do the basic maintenance on these motors they will last forever.

Welcome to iboats. boater4696!

If you really have the same boat (have you measured the length?), you are way overpowered. The 85 is also significantly heavier than the 50, so your transom is under a lot more stress than it was designed for.

Thanks. Yes same boat (13.5 from bore to end/back of transom). I'm doing floor repair (alot of rot) now also I'm going to beef up the transom while I am at it.
