I was having problems with my new to me 1985 Evinrude 40 hp wouldn't run well so I took it to a repair shop. They said they cleaned the carbs and said it wouldn't idle so went from 50 to 35 jets. My question is this going richer or leaner? It runs great above an idle but won't hardly keep running at an idle. The boat sat for 9 years and the repair shop said the carbs were dirty. Don't know if they removed them to clean or just sprayed them. Anyway, they solved the problem of what I thought was a loss of one cylinder when going top end. That works great now.
Running some sea foam at this time but wondering if they put the wrong jets in. It really smokes and jerks at idle before it quits. Have the throttle control stopper nut almost all the way in to keep the idle up so it doesn't die when I back off on the throttle. Any suggestions?
