1985 Evinrude 50HP Outboard stalls at full throttle

I have an evinrude 50hp outboard.Its an E50TLCOB..it will run fine at idle and at lower speeds,as soon as you speed up it stalls and stops. I thought it was getting to much oi lso I disconnected the vro pump and just used mixed gas..no difference.It has been at the repair shop for almost 2 weeks and they cannot find anything wrong,but they have determined it is electrical. They have taken the boat on the water and have expierenced the same problems as I have. Has anyone else dealt with this problem and if so have you resolved it. If you can help it would sure be appreciated.

How can they not find anything wrong, but they determine that the problem is elecrrical?

I cannot understand how they know it's electierical but they dont know what is wrong.

Maybe you should be looking for a new repair shop or be buying a repair manual yourself.

when the engine idles fine but stalls at WOT i would always keep an eye on fuel supply. there are little arguments that you have sparks on the plugs at idle but no at WOT and there are many arguments that the engine gets not enough fuel when you force it. check fuel supply

Another thing you can do is take the cover off of the carbs, get some premix in a squirt can and squirt it into the carb throats when the prob occurs. If it picks up, you know you have a fuel prob.

Also take an inductive timing light with you. When it starts to die out, pull trigger on timing light and see if strobes or not. Check all plug-wires. Just another way to see if it's in the ignition system or something else.

Had a similiar (actually identical) on a 40 evinrude. Cranked fine, idled fine! Died after around i minute at WOT. Ran fine at mid-throttle (but after 3 to 5 minutes died, had to pump ball). As long as ball stayed pumped it ran fine.
Bottom line!! Changed fuel pump (just yesterday) and all is well again (time to fish and stop mechanical work!!!)

Thanks for all your input..greatly appreciated.The marine dealer has checked, compression,fuel lines,,changed fuel to premium, timing, etc. all to no avail.was just hoping someone might have the answers.

No magic answers, you are going to have to check and eliminate sources for the problem. Fuel and spark have both been covered as to how to check them. I surprises me that your dealer doesn't know how to trouble shoot your engine.
