1985 Evinrude Xp 150 on a 1984 Champion bassbost. The Vro was removed before I got the boat there are two 438559 (part number) fuel pumps on it. The boat will bogg down when going from wake speed to wide open I will have to play with it to get ie to plane or if wide open it will slow down off of plane. If I throttle back when I feel it slowing down I can keep it on plane. It does not do this all the time it is however fairly regular. I have replaced all fuel lines, removed and cleaned carbs (dont think there is any adjustments other than float), replaced fuel filters, cleaned the screens in the fuel pumps. guess I am thinking it is the pump(s) going bad. Any help would be great.

Thanks Greg

Re: 1985 Evinrude XP150 V6

try pumping your bulb when experiencing the slow down, if it helps then I would recommend this VRO style pump, but it is still a non-vro and you have to premix ( which I prefer). http://www.dixiemarinesales.com/detail.aspx?ID=2
Here is a link to VRO rebuild kit. http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcvro.html
You can only rebuild the fuel side of a VRO pump.
You can also rebuild the pumps that you have if the motor ran fine before, the proper amount of fuel is very important and under pumping can cause serious problems to your pistons.
You also should get a spark gap tester from auto parts store and check your spark on each cylinder. should have a blue spark at 7/16 gap. also visually inspect coils for cracks or any burn marks on them. If the coils are old, they are not too $$$ to replace all of them.

then I would start checking the ignition side of my motor. New plugs would be the first thing to do...and make sure they are the correct plugs..very important

Already replaced the plugs have good spark both sides. I am sure it has to do with throttle/fuel as I can get it to recover by backing down the throttle.

Thanks

well if pumpinng the bulb makes no difference..then check your carbs...but It still could be something with the ignition..good spark can come and go...just because you got good spark when you test it, does not mean that your coils are not breaking down or some other electronic component is failing...normally if you pump your bulb and it makes no difference that would rule out fuel pump....also do you have clean fuel...a small amount of water in fuel can cause your problem also

You've probably already checked this but....

air leak from a connection somewhere on either the main fuel line or the smaller lines that run to each carb.

kink in one or more of the small lines running to the cards...particularly if one of those lines runs down underneath the bottom carb and could possibly get pinched by a something like the engine cover latch. A kink might let enough gas through at lower rpm, but not enough at higher.

Good luck!

Did you remove or test the anti-siphon valve?
