My question has to do with the head on my Force 85.

You can see picture s of what I am talking about at: http://www.jfnewell.com/boathead/

The following parts make up the head.
A = Thermostat Housing
B = Plate (Water Jacket Plate?)
C = Head

(I left out thermostat, temp sending unit, bolts, etc.)

There is/was a gasket between A and B. There was NO gasket between B and C. There is/was a
gasket between C and the block.

In between B and C (i.e. the plate and the head) there was only "goop". I bought a gasket kit, but it did not seem to have a gasket that would go between B and C. Is this normal? Should there be a gasket between B and C?

I found it kind of odd, that the previous rebuild had no gasket between the plate and the head, and that my gasket kit did not have one either.

No gasket there.
Just some "goop" to keep the water from leaking out.
Its a low pressure area and just needs something to fill the gaps.
RTV or other sealant should do.
Something removeable in the future would be nice.
