Hey guys,

Does anyone have experience with the older honda motors? I am planning on using a honda 7.5 as a kicker and feel that the highest tilt position is very low, causing it to drag while underway. Of course I haven't tested it in the water yet, but is there a way to tilt the engine higher?

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

Re: 1985 Honda 7.5 tilt position

I have an 84 model long on a 15" transom and can raise it to approx 81 degrees-more than enough to clear the prop from grinding while pulling the boat out. Just raise it up a bit switch the handle from "run" to "tilt" & it'll lock at 35 & 80 degrees. When I first used mine the locking mechanism & spring had a mind of their own, sometimes it locked-sometimes not, the best was when it would unlock & come whipping down. I removed the spring, cleaned up the lock-it works fine.

My early 90's Honda 8HP gets up pretty high, I'd say around 80 degrees like noted by the prior poster.

Talked to a buddy who has an 85 BF75 on his sailboat, he shot me the #s- 32.5 & 73 degrees-thank God they included that .5 degree.

Thanks guys for the help. Looks like I jumped to conclusions and finally realized that the motor can tilt higher than 35 degree position. Happy boating!
