1985 Johnson 120 V4 on Skeeter bass boat: How do I replace the trim switch?

I just recently purchased a 1985 Skeeter bass boat that has a Johnson 120 engine on it. The trim switch that is on the throttle lever is extremely hard to push in either up or down directions and I want to replace it. I don't know what I need to buy or do to get this accomplished. The throttle lever says OMC on it and I did a quick search online and couldn't find any.

Do I need to replace the complete throttle lever? If so which one do I use and where can I get it?

Thanks,

Matt

Remove control box from boat. Remove allen screw from center of handle on other side of box. Insert a long 1/4x20 threaded bolt into the threads of the handle. Hit the head of that bolt with a hammer which will free the handle. Remove that long 1/4x20 threaded bolt.

You should now be able to see how that switch removes and is installed.

Ok thanks for the help. I will try that tomorrow evening. Is the type of switch something common enough where I can grab one from a auto store? Or something that I would need to order?

It will need to be purchased from a marine type store that handles Evinrude and Johnson outboard parts. Get the part number from a Evinrude/Johnson dealership. Very possibly it can be purchased from this site.
