I think I bought a pig in a poke. I have spent several months replacing stringers, foam, deck, and carpet and now I have electrical issues: eek: I have read several post that contained a lot of good information on how to trouble shoot stator. By the looks of it I have a 35 amp alternator which when checked should show .12 to .22 Ohms. It doesn?t, it show .9 Ohms. The stator showed no continuity from Yellow to ground. In addition, tach never worked voltage check across battery with engine running shows the system is not charging. Have I missed something here or is it time to replace the stator and voltage regulator. : Confused:

Note: Engine starts and runs good but after a few starts battery dies.

if it starts then the stator should be fine.. the stator induces ac vlotage by the flywheel magnets spinning..you need 300rpm to start chatging coils to fire..that said your engine starts..so stator should be ok.

the charging issue is sepperate from the stator, although the stator is what gets yoour voltage going except it runs that power to the rectifier to then convert to DC voltage.

The rectifier/regulator send voltage to the batteries to charge. usually charging doent occur instantaniously it takes a little bit and can change when rpms increse.

to check it, what you should do is first clean all your battery termnals, snug them down good an tight and then start the engine..with a meter going across both battery terminals have someone rev the engine up some..not too much..but enough that you see your meter reading the changes in voltage. if you have a battery guage this may indictate that for you but i prefer a meter directly connected to the battery.

your tach issue may be related but you need to check the tach seperately to determine whats up with that.

Check the grey wire from regulator rectifier to tach, if the wire is good and its still not charging replace the R/R, tach reads pulses from the R/R.
If the R/R goes out the tach goes dead.

Also check your 12v feed and ground to the tach just to be certain.

Look under the stator for melting insulation.
