A friend just bought a boat with a 1985 150 VRO Johnson motor. It runs okay at cruise and WOT but idles badly. It definitely sounds lean, it shakes and misses.

We looked at the carbs pretty closely but there does not seem to be any idle mixture screws anywhere. We took the airbox cover off and the only thing I could see was a narrow brass tube in each of the carb barrels. I couldn't see down them to know if there was a tiny screw buried in them or not.

The outside of each of the carbs have some tiny sealed plugs in them, would they be in there?

TI***

Hello BJM,
The carbs on your 150 have fixed jets. You can take them off, take them apart and clean, or rebuild them, But no adjustments. If I was you I would get a manual do timming and sync & link and see if that didn't cure the problem, if not then do the carbs.
Good luck

I thought only cars would have fixed jets.

The carbs on this motor all glisten with what I assume is fuel too. Maybe the carbs need going through.
