My stator went out. serial#A137316 of boat
So I order a new one and saw that my year could be a fifteen amp or a sixteen amp stator.
Originaly the boat came with a fifteen amp stator,I know that for sure.
Before I bought the bought it was replaced with a sixteen amp stator wich is now bad.
I ordered a sixteen amp stator, My question is I am concerened about the charging side of the stator.
I am thinking about updating my charging system.

when I do a search on iboats for regulator, for my year of boat and hp,it only shows the rectifier.http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...d_poid=356056&gd_row=132&**********=223994948
If I were to install the six wire regulator http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Regu...at_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item415a97e1ea
would I still need a rectifier or do they normaly have that bulilt in the regulator?

I have a decent fishfinder and I dont want to fry it.

Yes that should work as it replaces the 16 & 20 amp rectifier/regulators. Check with them to see if they supply the male terminals to attach to your wiring or the warraty may be voided if you cut the wires to modify...

Thanks Fatzbullet
I thought that may work

I still need an answer to couple things.
One is when I do a search on iboats for regulator, for my year of boat and hp,it only shows the rectifier.... http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...d_poid=356056&gd_row=132&**********=223994948 If I were to install the six wire regulator http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Regul...item415a97e1ea
(would I still need a rectifier or do they normaly have that bulilt in the regulator)?
And question 2 is...... I understand how to hook up all the wires on the new regulator except the red ones. The red (sense) and the red b+ wire. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Regu...at_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item415a97e1ea

Your motor came with a rectifier, and probably a 9 amp stator. 16 amp will sub Ok. Probably no regulator at all, relied on the battery to regulate the output by loading it down. Open circuit the system would develop up to 90 volts. Mercury put out a stator saturating regulator in the late 80's for a couple of years mostly noted for catching fire.

6 Wire regulator can be sub'd. Probably have to find another place to mount it. Heat shouldn't be a problem. A relatively small aluminum plate conveniently placed works fine.

Yellows go to stator. Black to ground. Grey to tach, both reds to battery, usually picked up at the solenoid end of the battery cable.

hope it helps

Thanks John....
By what you said I as I understand it, you said that both red wires from the six wire regulator go to battery,or hot side of solenoid, corect? I'm clear on the other four wires.
I realise I will have to mount the regulator on a heatsink surface, read some of you're other posts to get that information eairler, most helpful. Here is the link of the stator I ordered..http://www.outboardignition.com/mandmsearch.asp?cat=itemname&cval=5&hval=45&val=8 The second one....Item #174-5456-16

I thought it was a good price after looking at many.

I installed the regulator today and stator.
Regulator works fine and stator is fine.
Problem is The old stator wasn't bad.

I am going to start a new thread for that topic.

True J martin, but I did have the old black incased stator.
I was told that it would eventualy fail.
Now I won't have that problem to deal with.
