1985 mariner 40hp weak tell tale

what I mean is I removed the thermostat poppet valve and the cover then started the motor to see if water ever got there and it didn't bone dry inside the housing after over 1 minute but there was water coming from the tell tale so it's almost like the passage way to the thermostat is blocked.

I see....sorry I'll be of no use at this point, no experience with this particular motor, have you search in other topics for similar issues?

First off thanks to everyone of here that tried to help me out with this issue.

CONCLUSION
I went out and bought a snake camera because I knew there was a blockage somewhere and sure enough the water tube had 5 to 6 old pieces of impeller jammed up at the top of it. After some snaking with wire and other things we were able to push them back down the water tube and out. Once again thanks to everyone who tried to lend a hand change your impeller every 1 to 2 years or so many hours and this won't happen to you. Could have been avoided but now I have a great boat that I bought cheap because 3 people couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Hopefully headed to the lake this weekend to rip some lips. Also buy a snake cam it will save your life. Thanks guys.
