I noticed the Gimbal bearing has a seal and a tolerance ring but the tolerance ring is no longer available. I have found 3 that I plan to go ahead and get if I need them. The issue is I have searched the thread on replacing the Gimbal bearing and I have not seen anyone mention this tolerance ring. Not very many mention the seal but the seal is more or less a no brainer. Is this tolerance ring required and what is it for? If it is required then I am going to go ahead and get the 3 I found but if its not required I just won't use them.

That tolerance ring is part of the bearing and comes with any gimbal bearing.

Ayuh,... It's already mounted to the gimbel bearing when you take it out of the box...
It's not mentioned because it's Part of the bearing assembley....They come on Every gimbel bearing...

Got another issue. Cannot get the lower swivel pin out. I got the cotter pin out but the swivel pin will not budge. Any ideas on how I could remove this pin?

I am restoring the entire boat. When the previous owner removed the outdrive 1 of the bolts broke off. When I removed the rest from the boat another bolt broke off. Also, the drain hole in the boat got blocked so the back of the boat filled with rain water and cause a lot of rust on the bolts and such. I am going to replace all the bolts and bearings in the unit, basically rebuild the entire unit but I cant get this pin out. According to everything I have looked at it appears that it should slide out once the cotter pin is removed but since it is not doing that I am sure the bearing needs to be replaced anyway.

Pin is not froze to bearing but the bearing does need to be replaced so I need to get this pin out somehow.

here in the salt pond I typically use a sawall and cut the pin above and below the gimbal ring and drill out the pieces.
