I replaced the timing cover on this engine. The new cover came with a seal already installed into the cover. My question is this seal a marine seal or do I need to get a different seal and put into it. I ordered it from Michigan Motorz and asked them this question. In the shipping box there was an extra seal in there and it was reddish colored. I called MM and talked with a parts guy and he said the cover should not have had a seal already installed on it so I was asking the question because I really dont want to swap the seal out but if I have to I will. Motor runs fine and I have an intermittent leak coming from that area but its only like a couple of drops every now and then. I have tightened all the pan bolts while the engine was warm to make sure they got tight enough.

tks

When you had the cover off, did you inspect the shaft? if it has a wear groove where the seal rides, it'll still leak. Also if you didn't put sealer on the keyway when installing the damper, it'll leak from the keyway.
