It's time to replace the 'ole, original teleflex steering cable on my Johnson 1985 120 HP.

Unfortunately, the motor has to come off the transom to get this job done ( I have a 20' walk around Grady White ).

The Shop Manual does not go into detail about this project, so I would appreciate a little advice.

I also think it wise to R/R the tilt tube too - the tilt is very 'sticky' from this.

Where do I start, and where are the '*****y parts' of the project ? Any tricks i.e. to get the tilt tube out of the bracket ( I was thinking - maybe a pipe the same size diameter as the tube - hit lightly w/ a hammer? )

Any special installing / lubing for the new cable ?

Thx,

Alan ( abl1111@aol.com )
