1985 sears gamefisher 7.5

Hi I am new, I have a 1985 sears 5hp outboard model 217-586613 and it starts right up runs for a second and dies(will not idle).I rebuilt the carb and I think I did it right.The motor reves up really high during that second and it also makes a fluttery high pitched sound right before it dies.Could this issue be behond the carb?....thanks Robert

Sounds like fuel shortage problem. have you checked fuel flow to carb from tank? Will it run with the choke on ? Have you tried spraying carb cleaner directly in carb, if it will run on carb cleaner you have a carb problem or lack of fuel problem.
