I just bought a new power pack for the right side. I hooked it up and then started the motor. It sounded great and was running good as well. Then all of a sudden I watched the new pack just burn up. I am lost for words and dont know what else to do I have a manual and have been doing everything it tells me to do. I am hoping that it aint a stator.

not sure how about that particular motor but I know that a bad coil or a short somewhere can cook a powerpack, at least this will bump ya to the top.

Battery connections solid? An open circuit while running can smoke a pack quick.

No way would I hook up another new one until I found the problem. Its the battery cables like already mentioned or Something is either getting energized that isn't supposed to, or something is getting grounded that isn't supposed to. Do you have a manual for trouble shooting the wiring?

Ok guys, now that you all mentioned battery. My boat runs off of 2 batteries. I gave one of them up to a fellow boater who's motor caught fire because of his rectifer. All he had was a trolling motor and his battery was about dead. I took my wires that were hooked to that other battery and ran everything off of one battery. Could this have been the problem. There was nothing touching ground that I found?

Not quite sure what you mean "There was nothing touching ground ..." Looking for loose or open (and/or) high restistance terminations, i.e. a terminal clamp not tight, wing nuts holding ring lugs loose, etc. In fact, if you have wing nuts on your battery, ditch 'em and put on ss hex nuts and washers and tighten those suckers with a box wrench or socket.

Last night I did find a that one of the wires coming off the rectifier to the terminal that is conntected to thje stator was loose. Tightened it but everything as far as batteries goes back together and put power pack on. Started the motor and man it ran better then it ever has
