Does a 2 stroke have a thermostat? My 200 runs good and I haven't had any problems but I don't want to. Where would it be and is it hard to change?

All water cooled motors have them and yours should have one on each head. Look at a parts breakdown of your motor and see where they are located and get a manual for your motor it will give you all sorts of info on what and how to do things needed. That should be a simple job as long as there is not a lot of corrosion.

they are at the top of each head, cover is held on by 4 bolts.
if they have not been out and its a saltwater motor your most likly gonna snap the bolts even with heat.

depends, is it a saltwater motor and when was the last time the fasteners were removed.
then did they get greased before reinstallation.
oxy acetylyne is wonderful stuff and so are the dewalt bullit point drill bits.

Re: 1985 yamaha 200 etlk thermostat????

It is I suppose a saltwater motor.(guessing from the location of the previous owner. However I drained and checked the bowls on the carbs and they were clean and the gaskets appeared to be new. The consignment lot I got it from said that it was recently serviced which I never believe but seems to be on target this time. The therms may have been replaced or not who knows and who wants to be wrong.I guess I will use the method I use on motorcycle cases and give each bolt a direct "dead blow" with a dead blow hammer(small) and a punch. In the past this method has served me well with the "phillips" style case and cover type bolts on my motorcycle engines. Think this might work ? Sounds better than drillin and tappin. Is it ok to use anti seize to reinstall or should I use marine grease?

Well finally got round to replacing the therms and got seven out of the eight bolts out fine......one snapped. I am thinking I will replace this one with a stud and nut.
