Hoping someone can help, I bought this 1985 Pro Craft bass boat last year, engine hard is hard to start when cold. My main question is I have been all over the internet trying to find a manual for the motor. 1985 Yamaha 50ETLK. seems no one offers it, even go to Yamaha web site. Closes one I could fine is for a 50ETLJ which is i year newer. Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim

The 1986 manual will work for your model motor.

Regarding a cold hard start, is the choke plate closing when the key is pushed in or the choke toggle switch is pressed?

Ok, thanks. Ill order the 1986 manual. The issue I am having is there is no way to turn the choke half off. Yes, the plates are closing, starts stalling out, I turn choke off, then the plates opens wide again and get it too lean on a cold engine, dies before it catches again. wish I could turn choke half off like on a chain saw or trimmer or like most 2 cycle engines. Main thing is it is embarrassing at the boat dock. lol I ordered cooling muffs so I can play with it at home a little bit. thanks so much for your input.

most people just bump it a little when needed during warm up, not just turn it on or off

Maybe try advancing the throttle just a tad while leaving the choke plate fully closed. Different motors seem to like different starting procedures for some reason. Finding the right one can be fiddly.

I bought a pressure washer with a Honda motor. Try as I might it simply would not start using the published starting procedures. My Honda generator starts quite well with the throttle wide open and the choke fully engaged. So I tried that on the pressure washer motor. Works like a charm.
