this motor uses the 35A water cooled rectifier. it has been tested as no good. i have a spare round 9A rectifier from my 79 140. can i screw this one on with no bad effects. i know they physically mount differently. i dont want to burn something up or maybe start a fire if there is an issue with overcharging or excess heat buildup.

actually. where does the 35A come from, is the amperage produced by the stator or by the rectifier? if it is done by the rectifier, then it seems to me there would be no problem. however, if it is the stator that determines the amperage, then i can see the problem with too much amperage. thanks.

The 110 came with two stators, a 6 amp and a 3/9 amp. The 9 amp version was for the unit with power trim. It takes the water cooled rectifier/regulator. I'd put back in the engine what the factory recommends so you don't have problems.

I think the 35 amp rectifier is also a voltage regulator. Controlling the voltage also controls the amps. The stator develops the whole thing, the regulator just controls it. The rectifier-only unit will not control the voltage and you will have all sorts of overcharging problems, including maybe burning up the inadequate rectifier.

ok. well, i have an extra stator, flywheel and timer base from a 78 140. could i use that in conjunction with the round rectifier that way i would be using a complete system. i also have the water passage cover from the same engine, therefore i could remove the water cooled rect and cover the hole with the cover from the 1978. thanks in advance.

Sounds like a plan, if it all fits. I don't know the answer to that. Obviously, there will be some wire changes.
