Well, I got a 140 looper with a v4 style lower unit and I got it paired with a 1989 Checkmate Predictor which is 16' and weighs in around 900 lbs. I'm looking to get the best possible speed from the engine. I don’t want to go with a v6 because I can’t afford to buy one and they’re a pain to rebuild. I don't know if it’s better to go with a v6 lower unit and get a larger pitch prop or keep the v4 lower unit. Also, maybe there are a few things to be learned about these motors that can amp up the power output without destroying the engine. Anything having to do with a performance boost will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tell us about the set up. What's your top rpm? What prop are you running? What (accurate) speed? From that we can determine slip and see if the performance is maxed out now.
