This engine appears to be in good shape, except that it has not run for several years. It has a compression of 90, 91, 89, 90, 91, 90 in 6 cylinders and will run for a short time if ?starting fluid? is placed in the 3 carbs. In the last several days the fuel/oil pump has been replaced; bypassing the fuel tank and using a premix of 50:1 and priming the carbs. the motor will not start. The other odd thing is that when I remove fuel outlet line and engage the starter only a small amount of fuel ?little more than a trickle? comes out of the VRO pump, does this seem right? I have been scouring the forum for the last several days for ideas - any insights on what to try next is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and efforts in advance.

Possible the fuel primer is not working. When you depress the key to activate the choke, the primer solenoid on the starboard side of the airbox will inject extra fuel into each of the three carbs through three very smalll hoses. You can remove the small hose at the top of the top carb and depress the key (when in the run position.) You should get some fuel out of the hose, indicating the solenoid is functioning properly. If this solenoid is not working, it's very difficult to start.

Thank you guys for your insights. I read through the private section and will follow up, it could very well could be the primer or the carbs. I was curious what your thoughts are about the amount of fuel comming out of the fuel outlet hose, while cranking the starter with container of 50:1 mix resting on the ground approximately 3 feet below the height of the fuel inlet on the fuel/oil pump. Does this seem correct, I don't have a good feel for it?

Thanks in advance.

You can test the fuel pump according to the factory manual: it specifies maximum inches of vacuum on the fuel pump suction side and minimum lbs of pressure on the outlet side. If the pump does not meet the specs, it should be replaced. If the engine has not run in a few years, I'd be concerned about dried/residual fuel inside the carbs-you may want to rebuild them, considering today's fuel quality.
