Just purchased a 14' with a 15hp (1986)johnson.
couple of questions,
on the throtle arm there is a stop button that will not work,is this fixable?and there also is a plastic knob around it that turns in both directions,what is this knob for.

Stop button fixable? I guess so but dont ask me how!
As for the plastic ring around it, this sets the idle position of the twist throttle, which essentially controls the IDLE position/RPM.

And while I'm at it, some other info on this motor that might be useful:

1. Oil ratio should be 50:1, NOT 100:1 that may be stickered on the side.
2. Motor uses Champion QL77JC4 plugs, NGK equivalent is BZ7HS-10. Spark plug gap should be 0.030".
3. The twist knob on the front of the motor is a high speed needle adjustment, not the idle adjustment.

yes I am using 50:1 the ring I'am talking about is around the stop button on the end of the tiller handle.Is the turn knob on the font of the motor a hi- speed adjustment? how/why is it used?
sorry for the questions 1st older motor i've owned.

If the stop button is fualty you can buy a new one for about $90 part number BRP 583975. It replaces as an assembly.

The knob on the front of the motor is the low speed idle adjustment. The high speed jet is fixed so you can adjust it at all.

Oops sorry I meant to say low speed adjustment re the knob on the front of the motor. My bad :rolleyes:
