1986 2.4 merc. stator

I have a 1986 2.4 liter Merc that may have some charging problems. Is there an alternator and what is the stator and where is the stator located? Thanx for your help!

The stator is located under the flywheel.<br /><br />It is the part of the charging system that generates the current. You should then have a regulator/rectifier to convert AC to DC to charge the battery.<br /><br />These components make up what would be a "alternator"...
