I had a different post about a 1986 VRO 70 hp that was busted off a boat. I got ahold of a 1986 60hp VRO for donor parts. Both are triple cylinders with 3 carbs. Did johnson use the same block with a different bore on these motors. I was just wondering if I could bolt the 70hp powerhead on the 60hp midsection. The 70 Model number is J70TLCD and the 60 model number is J60ELCDS.

the 70 is a big bore block the 60 is the old 70 block if bolt pattern the same motors may be changable note exhaust tubes are possibly different due to tuning suggest you take gearcase off 70 and put on 60 or have a dealer check for diff exhaust housings if the same you r good to go

The mounting bolt pattern for the powerheads is the same but unfortunately it wont work. The exhaust and the water inlet passages are in different spots. Its an odd ball situation because normally OMC was real good about "if it bolts up, it'll work".
