1986 8hp envirude, fuel mixture

I'm new to the outboard world and I'm seeking advice on fuel to oil mixture. Its posted on the motor near the gas insert 100:1, my question, is this referring to the oil it's self, or do I mix it 100 parts oil to one gallon of fuel? I haven't ran the motor without the oil so no worries there just curious. I'm real familiar with small motors I.E lawn mowers chain saws etc. but have never seen 100:1 that's why I ask

According to my calculations, that is rougly 6.4oz of oil to every 5 gallons of fuel. Does that sound about right for this motor?

The 100/1 mixture was a disaster! DO NOT use the 100/1 mixture! This caused many blown powerheads.

Use the 50/1 fuel/oil mixture... 1 pint of good quality 50/1 oil to 6 gallons of gasoline. A fuel rating of 87 octane will be fine.

I agree that the 100:1 rating was a total disaster put into effect by outboard manufacturers to "play nice" with the EPA. 2-Stroke engines die a quick death at 100:1. I have been using 2-Strokes for years in my snowmobiles and outboards. I run Klotz R50 Synthetic Oil in my outboards at 40:1 (1 pint Klotz to 5 Gallons of Gas). These synthetic oils are so good that I can troll all day at 40:1 without ever fouling a sparkplug. BTW - Klotz oils smells AWESOME, it's addicting!
