1986 9.9 Exhaust Diffuser

I took the motor apart to repair the steering swivel and replace water pump impeller. There is a diffuser plate in the bottom of the exhaust area of the mid section. When I pulled the power assembly off the mid section this plate was just laying in the bottom. Its not real apparent where it goes. Anybody know where it goes?

Ya I seen that. Clear as mud. Seems to show it sitting vertical in the leg. Problem is there is nothing there but casting. The exhaust goes straight down through some holes into the lower unit. i assume the diffuser plate goes over those holes but don't know which way. Or even if it goes there for sure. Thanks for the reply. May have to break down and buy a manual.

Just went out to the garage and flipped the leg over. I see where it goes. It is vertical in a channel up from the bottom. Funny thing is I found laying in the bottom of the top side of the leg. Guess this motors been apart before.
