Re: 1986 90 Horse Evinrude Tilt Trim problem
Thanks for the quick response marinemech1. I did do what you suggested and still had no movement or any noise at the motor. I also went from the battery direct to the different wires on the trim motor. I also tried a direct ground at another time. Isn't it true that the ground is run through the same wires, it just depends on the direction of the trim, up or down as to which wire is the ground. Please let me know if this is incorrect. The reason I ran direct from the battery was to by-pass all the trim swithces, One on the motor and the one on the control. the strange thing is it doesn't appear to cause a draw on the battery when I run to the wires on the trim unit.

I can also lift the motor by releasing the pressure on the hydraulics and when I screw the relief valve back in it holds the motor in that position and when I loosen it, the motor travels smoothly back down. This makes me think the hydraulics are OK and it leads me back to the electric motor.

Let me know if I am all wet in the way I'm diagnosing it. I look forward to further help.

thanks, Rick
