What up Guys?
I have heard this 90 horsepower Evinrude has the same powerhead as a 115 horsepower Evinrude. What parts have to be changed out to get the power of a 115 horse power Evinrude? I bought this boat from a one owner and it runs and fishes great. I just want more power. I know it will burn more gas but it will be worth it.

Help Need more horses,
Bassin JIm :p :p

Welcome Jim!!

I'll bet what youre really after is more performance, not necessairly just horsepower.

If we're going to take a trip on the performance highway we have to know a few things. First we have to know where we're at now. Tell us about your rig. What hull? Jackplate? What rpm is it turning now with an average load? Accurate speed? What prop?

Then we need to know where we're headed. Thats defined use. What are you looking for? Strictly top speed with a light load? Overall performance? Carry a load better? Skiing (we assume not since you mentioned fishing)?

Once we know where we're at and where we're headed we can map out the trip. Tell us more!

Hello Rabidfish,
The Hull# - 1600V Procraft Bassboat. I can't find any numbers on the prop. It does not have a jackplate of any kind.
I was talking with some of the guys at work and they said that going to bigger jets in the carbs. and maybe changing the exhaust would be all I would have to do to get the Extra horses. What do you think?
I'm going to pull the prop off Saturday to see if I can find any numbers on it.
Later, Bassin Jim

Theres more to it than just jets. We need to know what rpms it'll turn, what speed and what pitch and style prop youre using.

Again -- youre looking for more performance, not necessairly more horsepower. If youre not using all you have now theres no sence adding more.

I too was wondering about this. I recently purchased an Lowe Deck boat with 1989 Johnson 88MSL. I am looking for more performance all around. Higher top speed for cruisin, fair hole shot for planing. For a 1500lb aluminum boat I am acheiving 31mph. I would like my 90hp engine to propel it closer to 40. RPM Range around 4500, but my Tach is not working. I purchased both the Johnson Service & Parts Manuals. The 88 and the 110 are very similar, however they do have different heads in addition to Jets. How much HP can I get from overboring?

Brandon - Get your tach working, get a reading at WOT and when you come back start a new thread. Also post the info Dhadley was asking Jim for. When a guy starts a thread it is tough when someone else jumps in.
