When are you going to open the boat up and see what's what?

Pretty soon if this threat of rain will take a break, I know I am going to replace the gas tank and I need to take a bunch of pictures first, but the temps has to come up as I need to do some poly repair on the bottom of the inner transom before I can do any seacast if I go that route but if I can get the top off ok then I may just use the wood replacement instead.

I just might see how hard it's going to be to pull the cap off of the boat and really check the stringers out..

Not confirmed yet but it looks like the front deck is part of the top cap as well as the helms and most of the back deck at least it looks like it is, like I said I need to do more checking.

All this is not going to be easy for me, at 67 and no help to speak of it going to be a lot of work I wasn't prepared for.

Here's the one I use. It has the replacable cartridges and prefilters. Reasonably priced, too.

Seems the description of 12/CS isn't accurate then:

I already ordered the one I posted above and ordered the 52P71 as well, will try them both and see if there are any differences in the two along with ordering extra filters..

All this is not going to be easy for me, at 67 and no help to speak of it going to be a lot of work I wasn't prepared for.

Just to clear any confusion.

I received my order in today and the 52P71 looks to be the better of the two as it has the double filter on each side, the 5203 is identical except only the one filter on each side, but I suppose I can use it if I need to do any grinding.
I also received two extra cartridges.

Kinda hard to see it all at one picture,but this is the control I have for my motor and the neutral lock is not working and I need to repair it, is this going to be a major job and is there a pdf on this control and it does have the tilt/trim in the arm.

See if you can find your year Merc here. There's a break down for a bunch of the remote control units. Might even find the parts you need there too..........

Specific for your year & motor would be better, but in a pinch the combined may be better then nothing, sometimes it isn't....


If you're dealing w/ a vintage Merc (or any vintage make) an original parts list (sold separately ) AND an original service manual will prove INVALUABLE

Thanks for the links, but not much help there and all the sites I have been going through to see if I could find a pic of mine shows it is either obsolete or shows a list of controls without pics so I have to go into each link to see if any of them might match, which they usually don't apply to me.

I have yet to find any info on this particular control, it looks standard, throttle, key, emergency kill and tilt/trim, why is this info so hard to find, is it top secret...Do I need a better clearance? Even Mercury's or Quicksilver's site is not much help.

I guess I'll have to take it apart and see what makes it tick. Pics first and as I go of course.

If anyone knows, I would sure appreciate it.
