1986 Bayliner Capri Out board 1750

I have a leaking gas tank. Does anyone have any info on changing them or it the boat now junk?

MDD, No the boat in not junk, If you have a built in tank, and no hatch to remove to get at it, then your only option is to cut away the deck to get at the gas tank. After installing the new one, I think all you'll need to install is a removeable deck plate to get at the electronic gas float.

Basically the tanks under the floor. Btween the tank and the string is 1/2" space. The floor is also 1/2" above tank. You will need to cut the floor between the stringer and tank. This will not be easy! Set the saw to a max of 5/8 inches.<br />All you can do is hope you get the tank out without damaging the tank. You can repalce both the tank and floor fairly easily however you do not want to blow up the tank or boat while doing this. <br /><br />>>>>>..Use extreme caution..<<<<<<<

I cut the floor out as it was rotted anyway.<br />I wanted you to see how you can cut this area however it might be easier to cut this whole area out rather than cut along the edges of the tank well.<br />

<br />Just after fixing the front frame. tank was cleaned and reinstalled.<br />

<br /><br />I think you have a Capri 1700 as a 1750 has an I/O drive or L drive.

Realgun is right, <br /><br />I recommend draining all fuel from the tank first. This is safer and it is much lighter then. You may be able to use a stud finder to locate the stringers so you can make a more accurate cut. I've never tried it but it may work.
