Hi guyz!! Hey it's been awhile but I'm back! And with a new boat! :) On Saturday I picked up a 1986 Bayliner Trophy 16' with a 85 hp Force outboard on the back.

Boat had soft floor and the previous owner had ripped it all out. So basically its an empty hull with dual consoles and an outboard. Also came on a pretty nice galvanized trailer. Boat, motor and trailer are all 1986.

I haven't started the motor yet. The guy said it ran good but needs water pump. I want to do a compression check on it before I do anything much to any of it. I turned it over by hand and thot it felt pretty good but wanna do a test and see the numbers. The motor looks in very good and clean inside and out - minus faded/peeling decals on the housing.

I gave the guy $450 for everything. Did I make out ok?

If the motor checks out all ok - I want to put deck back in the boat with hatches and livewell ect. I'll get some pix of it up here asap! :)

At a worst case, you can sell the trailer and make out just fine i'd think. Everything else is just a bonus...

Here's a few shots of the outboard. I think it looks really good! Now, if it runs as good as it looks... ;)

Ha ha!! You'd have to give me more than $500. I spent a little over $200 at the notary getting trailer title changed, bill of sale for boat, applying for boat title, trailer license, and boat registration. So na..$500 wont cut it! :D

holy crap! 200 just to change title,, and i thought having to pay 25 dollars
to transfer a plate / register my boat trailer was to much!
and boat registeration here is free as well (other than having to
waste a couple hours in a gov office)

Well that included tax on buying the boat too. I forgot to mention that. So yeah - tax, titles (boat and trailer), registration, and trailer license. Guess it all adds up! Was more than I expected when I walked in tho. Breathe deeply and walk on! LOL

You might want to dial down the pressure on the washer. You blew the deck right out of it :p

Re: 1986 Bayliner Trophy restoration

Does anyone have any suggestions on putting a livewell(s) in a bass boat? Where do you get them? Any suggestions on installation? I think the previous layout had the livewell in the bow area. From what I can tell it had plumbing from the livewell to a thru-hull fitting in the transom. I didn't see any discharge opening tho. So maybe you just fill the livewell and aerate the water and empty it after you pull it out of the water? The only thru-hull opening above the waterline is on the right side at the back. I'm pretty certain that is for the bilge.

I sorta need to figure some of this stuff out before I get too involved with putting the deck in it. The guy said the plumbing ran down the center of the hull under the deck.

Re: 1986 Bayliner Trophy restoration

On Friday I got a compression tester from Auto Zone...tested my outboard and it showed a little over 30 #s in all the cylinders. Of course that kinda freaked me out. The funny part was that all the cylinders rated about the same. If you have low compression...wouldn't it be mostly one cylinder and not all three together?? I decided to check my 28 hp Johnson thats on my trihull to see what kinda rating it would show on it. That motor runs great and the marine mechanic that had worked on it had said it had somewhere over 100 #s of compression. I forget the exact #. I used my tester on it and it read 35 #s. So much for the compression tester.... Guess I'll needa get another one and try again. I feel pretty good because my Force rated very close to my Johnson and it runs good.

Re: 1986 Bayliner Trophy restoration

Hey...um I hate to keep asking the same thing over again but...like did anyone ever install a livewell in their boat?? What did you use? Is there a good already made system to use or did you make your own or??

And no, Im not hiring someone to custom make one.

I seen Cabelas had one like this: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...abelas/en/common/search/search-box.jsp.form23

but its sorta pricey and if you read the reviews on it, it could be better.

Or greatlakesskipper has alot of livewell "tubs" but what do you do for lids? They would need to be sealed so that the water cant splash while your driving. Here's one I really like if I could make or get lids for it. http://greatlakesskipper.com/produc...ker-25-gallon-boat-poly-livewell-w-cover.html

Any thots???

Re: 1986 Bayliner Trophy restoration

Sigh...for as much help as I've got on iboats in the past they sure are a pathetic bunch when it comes to livewells.

I guess I'll just needa shoot in the dark and hope it works. I don't feel like asking the same question all over again... I did think that someone for sure would have done something with livewells and would have had some sort of suggestion.

Oh well, I still luv you guyz anyways. :) After looking at all the livewell tubs available...I'm wondering whats more special about them than any other plastic storage container you buy at Walmart or Target?? It would be a fraction of the cost. I'm still unsure on the lid subject... Does a livewell lid have to be sealed? I always thot so but maybe I'm wrong. Never owned a boat that had one in. Does a regular plywood hatch lid work??

Someone?? Plz????
