I would replace the distributor with an electronic one. Will cost you about $250 but points are gone then.

Well I did order a complete distributor off ebay (used) it will be here in another week. it was only $50 and should give me enough spare parts for now. Later I can upgrade to electronic when I have the money.
I did by a re-curve kit with three sets of springs while I wait ($12.00) I installed the lightest ones which had the specs I needed. I've used the boat 4-5 hours and has been great.

I cleaned out my distributor and set the points gap, cam dwell and timing after these springs were installed.

Had Friday off and spent the morning fishing. Came back empty handed though. Our lake can be tough at times.

Bought a transom attachment with roller, tube rope and tube for the kids today. 90 degrees outside latey but water is still only low 60's
Too cold for me to try the skis yet. Kids liked the tube though!

Slow speed for our smallest

Looks like a lot of fun. Your making me jealous my friend. 60's is a little chilly but at least you don't have alligators to contend with lol! I have a friend who was waterskiing and fell on top of gators back, apparently scared the crap out of the thing. It run'd oft:lol: Congrats again on getting your boat on the water again. Must be nice enjoying the fruits of your labor!

Thanks again, yes it has been fun! Yes good thing there are no gators in our waters lol. Our lake doesn't freeze here but gets down to 39/40 in January. Summer is mid 70's maybe 80 max at certain parts. But yes even 60 stinks, it was the kids who were dying to try the tube. Check this short video out from 10 days ago when our son was dying to cool off and the water was 57 degrees.
57 degree water test - YouTube
Only thing we have to worry about is some of the crazy boaters that do what they want. Anyways yours seems to be coming along great, I'll be watching.

Looks like your better half braved the waters too in the tube ehh? Thats awesome. So did you get the new distributor in? Do you even need it anymore now that you seemed to have fixed your current distributor? Or was it more of a quick fix but not necessarily reliable? Can't wait until I can be posting some pics of my stringers, unfortunately I have been working the last 3 nights so I haven't had a whole lot of time or energy to do the stringers and now I have to fly to San Diego tomorrow for my sisters graduation from USC.

Re: 1986 Campion bowrider restoration

My wife was not going near the water that day. That was our oldest daughter...
I haven't received the distributor yet but should be here tomorrow. I think I may resell it on ebay or if anything keep it and all my spare parts in the boat in case something happens on the water. At this point I can't see anything going wrong with the new springs. The problem was the plate above the weights cam loose and knocked a weight off. I've removed the plate completely and it has been running good.

Re: 1986 Campion bowrider restoration

So the distributor has still been great so far with the new weights. I received the one from ebay which is in decent shape but haven't done anything with it yet.

I did break down and get a cover for the boat, it spent it's first night in eight months outside last night... Though it hasn't rained yet it seems it will be ok when it does. I bought one from princess auto which in Canada is just the local DIY store. They had a "regular" and "heavy duty" one. $115 or $180 I ended up with the $180 one and it fit pretty decent. Takes a bit to set up. I put some old socks on the corners of the windshield first and it has two stands under it for the stern and bow to support the cover higher for run off.

new cover

Wow my garage is back!

Thank you very much,
The boat has been great! Haven't had any issues and we've been using it every chance we get. I bought some Canon manual downriggers but haven't used them that much yet. I also painted the outdrive a few weeks ago, more of a touch up but it looks fine.
We also learned to stay as far away from other boats as possible early this week. We were tubing and another boat pulling a tube went past us and then I saw it make a 180 and was heading right for us. They kept coming and just as I started to worry and wonder why? I could see that the driver and passenger were looking BACKWARDS at their tube riders. I layed the horn in my boat which did nothing and then yelled as loud as I could which basically only alerted my wife, father in law and little girl. Just when I really thought they might actually hit our oldest on the tube our girl jumped off (she could hear me yelling) and the other boat turned (NOT BECAUSE OF US) and their riders fell off the tube. Both the tube riders were no more than two boat lengths away floating in the lake. We went to pick up our daughter and gave the other boaters our "thoughts" - They gave us the deer in the headlights look still not realizing what just happened. Idiots!!

Anyways here are the latest pics and videos of our boating adventures.

Downrigger mounts attached

Trying them out

Mitchel kneeboarding. facing the sun so a bit dark.

nice job on boat, like the ski locker hatch, and did a good job on the rear seating/engine cover. Im currently redoing a bayliner bowrider with the same kind of budget in mind, getting toward the end of the budget already and still have lots to get. enjoy that hardwork it looks good.

Thanks so much guys! It's weird though... Now that it is somewhat all over, I cant loose the feeling like I want to do it all over again. Though it could be tough to convince my other half seeing as how from Feb to April I lived in the garage. I am always on the lookout for another project in need of some "TLC". I really would like my next boat to be bigger (who doesn't?) so that I can take it to the west coast for some Salmon fishing. Need to find something that my wife likes for all around family fun + fishing. I have been addicted to Islanders this year which are rare in my neck of the woods plus my wifes comments are always the same. "that looks too much like a fishing boat"... My reply is always the same "yeah and"?

Got to keep working at it I guess
