Re: 1986 Capri 1600 O/B Remodel Project

I have my interior stripped but I Am concerned about the stringers. They appear solid except at the very rear of the bilge and one is a little rotten up front at the frame directly ahead of the ski locker... Can I remove the bad sections and cut then glass in replacement wood in the bad section only or do I have to replace the whole stringer? Also Are you folks putting cloth over the floor after you seal it and set it down then covering with epoxy or are you just sealing the deck and putting epoxy and cloth at the seams?

Osage, the idea is to make the entire boat monolithic whenever/wherever possible ( one piece ).

Pieced in components are never as strong as a single piece unless they are done properly. Meaning, if you repair part of the stringer, you need to make sure you are overlapping the new and the old stringer sections for a strong bond. Most of the time, you can't get stringer wood in the length you need, so you have to section in a part of it...pay attention to the posts where guys have had to build longer stringers ( for example, the hull extension thread...those are long stringers! )

most prefer to glass the entire deck also, not just tape the seams. Some have gone as far as notching the deck so there are no seams to speak of, just overlaps.

I took a Wise back-to-back seat and broke it down into its 4 individual pieces. The plan is to turn them into 2 captains chairs that are locked into place. Later pictures will show what I've done.

What length is that rear bench? I'm planning on redoing the interior on a similar bayliner & I was looking for something like that!
