Greetings. I’ve been watching this sight for a few years. Currently rebuilding a 1986 Crestliner 16’ Nordic that I inherited from my father. I am replacing the floor (marine ply) and am going to use Vinyl flooring instead of carpet. Suggestion on using SS Screws or rivets as I put down the new floor?4476489D-05A5-4705-A54F-1EFEA695674F.jpeg8DF789EB-F2B6-4504-87D4-3490FA75DED4.jpeg

A few more pictures from the rebuild so far. Mostly shorelander trailer rebuild. New wheels, bearings, bearing buddies, rollers, wiring, lights, swing hitch, and paint. Again a few before and after pictures

How was original deck (floor) installed?

I suspect rivets, so that's what I'd recommend

Original deck was carpet and Crestliner had used SS screws. Since I am switching to a marine vinyl floor covering I am seeking opinions on which fastener type to use from both a functionality and cosmetic standpoint? Thanks for your input!

My choice would be stainless oval head screws and finish washers. You never know when you might have to get under there again. I have an 1985 and there is just enough gap at the bow that will eat up half a tray of small parts if you would happen to spill it while working on an electronic motor controller. 15 minutes to unscrew, remove and reinstall. Much longer if I would have had to drill out rivets and rivet again.

Noticed a ball valve in your first photo. What are the hoses it is on?

Thanks for your input! The ball valve is the drain for the livewell which sits in the bow and drains out the stern. I’m putting in new hoses while I have everything open and changing over the system as it’s a pain to open and close that valve reaching down below the floor through a small hatch. Thinking about going with a remote cable valve they are using on newer boats.

Had one on my 1990 Nitro I sold last summer. It lasted for 30 years and was still functional. Agree that would be the way to go.

I restored a 19’ sea nymph and a 18’ starcraft. One carpet and one vinyl
Both times wrapped the floor sections and use #10 s truss head screws i got from ebay. Looks good. screws flat and not a issue. Easy to remove a floorboard if needed

Predrill the holes and set torque on drill to avoid snapping off screw heads

Thank you for the reply and pictures! That looks like the ticket. With the weather breaking it’s time to get back to the boat project. Nice job on your boats by the way👍
