I've had this boat for a long time...a 14' flat bottom aluminum boat that I gave to my dad so that he could run over to lake and catch Crappie. The problem is, the 9.9 Evirude that is on the boat is a manual start. He's getting older now...and it's harder for him to pull the start rope. It's even hard for me. It starts good but the first couple pulls of the rope, it feels as if it's got a TON of compression. You have to pull quickly or it will get jerky....
What I am wondering is if it's possible to swap in an electric starter motor. I can get a relay and switch/button to make that work...I am an outboard tech at a dealership (Yamaha exclusively), but I've never messed with Evinrude stuff. All we're concerned about is the starter...no stator, rectifier, or anything like that. He has two batteries in the boat at all times, one of which usually never gets used (back up...dad likes having a "plan B") so we could use that to start the engine. Besides, it only gets started maybe twice each time he goes to the lake...once to get to his spot and once to get back to the ramp. He has a good fishin' hole....that he uses all the time.
Is it possible on an Evinrude to do such a thing? I've done it on a Yamaha in the past...customer was pleased and didn't mind having to charge the battery every outing.
