I have a 1986 evinrude that wont start, i have narrowed down the problem to being electrical, my compression and fuel are fine. I did the spark plug test and no spark was created. I need to know how do i test the Stator, Power Pack and Coils?

You could do that, or you could tell us what 1986 Evinrude you have.

No spark all 4 cylinders????. After setting for a year carbuators need to be check/cleaned. You need a ohm meter and peakreading meter to check the ignition system. You could disconnect the large round control harness at the engine end, then check for spark , remove all sparkplug wires when doing this test. REMEMBER WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU HAVE NO WAY TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE IF IT STARTS, BIG SAFETY ISSUE.

Cranking is turning the starter. It has nothing directly to do with the spark except to turn the engine so that the ignition system can generate.

When you go through the steps in the troubleshooting process, you will find the reason for your ignition problem. If you don't do it step by step, you will just waste money on parts.

Thanks for the help ezeke i just figured out i got a bad stator and rectifier, i know the rectifier cost around 100 bucks, but how much does a stator cost?

If the stator is not literally melting and dripping the potting downward, it is probably ok.

Based on the little that I know about your setup, I would expect there is as good a chance or better that your ignition switch is bad.

If your tachometer is working and the charger is still functioning, the rectifier is probably OK as well.

I did the test of the output of the Stator which was suppose to give me at least 150V and only gave me a 6-10V and the rectifier has one of the cables snapped which i didnt see because it was hidden behind another cable

Disconnect the whole rectifier and try starting. you don't need it to run.
