I have a 1986 Four Winns Freedom 160 that needs a new starter. I called the local shope and they estimated around $500-600 to replace. I know that the task of replacing a starter is easy, but I was hoping that there was someone on this forum that has replaced their starter on the same boat.

Would I have to lift the motor?
If so, how?

Re: 1986 Four Winns Freedom 160 Starter Replacement

Boats and access to power packages sometimes have nothing in common. I have a 87 SR Seville. While it is possible to change the starter, it's a 'stand on your head while using your foot to leverage a board' kinda deal. If you can reach under and then get to it, thats great. Pulling a motor for that is not unusual or unheard of. Sometimes you take out seats or seat supports. You can get a manual in the adult only sticky at the top of the forum for free. Access will be your call.
