1986 Galaxy OMC Outdrive Gears

I am working to rebuilding my family's 1986 boat , the gears in the OMC outdrive need to be fixed , we can hear them when the boat is turned on or trying to put it into gear, i am looing at a 1980 OMC outdrive seaswirl boat that is identical to the 1986, do you know if these boats/parts are compatible ??

Try to provide some pictures. Does the 80 model look exactly like the one you already have?

1980 would have been a Stringer and an '86 would have been a Cobra, wouldn't it? I don't think it'll swap.

86 was the year they introduced Cobra but they still had some
stringer drives used that year.

Here's a (salt water used) Cobra...what does yours look like?
As noted a 1986 boat could have either because some came with 1985 drivetrains some came with 1986s.
