I will check spark and compression tomorrow but what are some possible causes of this?

Boat has been running great but we had to get towed in yesterday. I was at about 3/4 throttle cruising back in and stopped to use the restroom. I don't remember if it stalled or I turned it off, but all of a sudden now it dies immediately when trying to accelerate. After a few re-starts the battery died. The person that towed us in brought a battery and it kept dying when accelerating so we had no choice to get towed in.

My confusion is that the problem started after I stopped the boat. Whatever it is it didn't cause it to die at 3/4 throttle unless coincidentally we stopped right before the problem arose.

We did get gas at a marina before heading back in so I'll put some in a jar tomorrow and check for water but we had already gone about 10 miles on that gas so I'm not sure if that's it. Thanks in advance for tips.

The compression numbers are most important.----These motors are famous for broken piston rings.----Running with oil injection ?----Tested oil injection ?----Or running with 50:1 mix ?

50:1 mix. I hope it isn't the rings. I put new ones in in the summer.

I think it's bad gas. I started it in the driveway and it took a while to clear out but once it stayed running decent I switched tanks and it was fine. I put the timing light on and it is firing on all four cylinders. I didn't check compression since it sounds good.

If it is the gas I'm wondering why we were able to go about ten miles though. Another thought maybe stopping gave it time to settle.

Next I took the tank out and set it ok level ground and expelled what was in the fuel line. I let it sit for a few minutes and started pumping it into a bucket with the primer bulb.

There was no water, sludge or any milkshake like substance coming out. It has the nice blue/green two stroke tint. It doesn't smell foul either.

I put a tiny bit in a jar and lit it on fire and it lit right up. I'll check it again in the morning after settling over night.

It's a twelve gallon tank and there is about 7-8 gallons left. I'm wondering if I top it off with 4-5 gallons if that will bring it up to useable condition?

Also, is marina gas more prone to being bad? Thanks again.

It was a carburetor core plug/frost cap. One fell out causing it to flood. I took them out and replaced them when I had the idle problem. Very disappointing to cause myself a $200 tow. On the bright side I'm glad it wasn't something worse and that I don't have to find a way to dispose of eight gallons of gas.
