1986 Johnson 150 GT

My boat idles fine but when I put the throttle to it it intermittantly bogs, sometimes for as long as 15 minutes and then something happens and it "catches" and will run full power for a while and then intermittantly bog again. It runs smoothly through the whole throttle to 55mph and without any rhyme of reason won't do more than idle. It will always start and run without stalling but will not always run full power. Any ideas. Have been told it is sucking air.<br /><br />Thanks Steve

Coupla things you can try Steve, one is carry a squirt can of premix and give the carbs a shot or two when it's misbehavin' or run it a while when it's running bad, shut it down and examine the plugs. Remember which plug came from where. Look for real wet plug(s) (flooding or no spark), real dry plug(s) (no fuel), real clean plug(s) (water in cylinder) etc.. If you can "read" plugs, they'll tell ya what's right and what's wrong.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Solved my own problem last night.... 4.5 inch fuel lines to bottom carb had pin holes in it and was sucking air. Time had taken it's toll. By the way... Repair cost me $0.75 for hoses and a package of cable ties, $2.50 at O'Rielly's and about an hour and a half including running for parts. This is a really inexpensive and simple repair to try before biting the bullet and taking it to the mechanic. I was considering a new fuel pump, power pack, coils etc. Saved a ton stumbling onto this fix. Symptoms of the problem was; before repair the inline pump ball would not get really hard. Now it is really firm. Thanks for the replies. Hope this helps someone else.
