1986 Johnson 50hp miss firing

Just got this motor and it seems to be missing and spitting, will stall at low RPMs. I have changed the plugs, rebuilt the carbs, changed the visible gas filter and ran it at night looking for an arc all with out much success. I think it is eclectrical / timing. Can some one help me with trouble shooting the electrical system? Or does someone have any other suggestions! Thanks<br />Steve steven.davies@perkinelmer.com

shdcld<br />First welcome to the board! It sounds to me like you may have a lean condition causing it to sneaze, or spit back through the carbs. You may want to try to "rich" up the mixture with the idle jet.<br />just my $.02<br />Richard

Thanks for the input! I suspected the mix also however the jets are fixed and new ones did not come in the carb kits. The previous owner did not use the oil injection and mixes the gas and oil at 50:1 can this be a problem?
