Hello, I am new to posting but have been reading for about 8 mos. I have an 86" four winns liberator 2112. I am replacing the transom and about 4' of the bottom two stringers. I have compiled ideas from the site and woul like good input from anyone who has done this. I amd using 1.5 csm, roving, poly. I am also using pl premium for the bonding of the transom and stringer. I got this from one of the engineers who built my boat in the mid 80'. He also suggested that I cut scarf and scab the new sections of stringer then glass over. My plan for layup of the transom is csm, roving (I have 18 and 24oz) csm, roving and csm over the entire transom overlapping onto the hull. For the stringers I will scarf, scab and glue, then I would like to use csm, roving, csm, then csm cap. The reason is beacuse Fourwinns used some crazy angles with wood to create supports from the stringers to the deck. I want to make sure the stringer is sealed, then I will put the angled wood on and cover it as best I can. I am also doing the motor mounts and one side at a time.Four Winns did not glass these in very well. I am on a time and money budget and would like to get it back as good or better. I don't think better will be that hard. I believe Four Winns only used csm sprayed on. I have a few questions and would like any good advice from people who have done this.

1) can I seal my wood with a poly/acetone mix first?
2) Am I using enough glass on the stringers.
3) do my layups look ok.
4) Does the cap have to extend to the hull or can it stop at the new tabbing glass?

P.S. my pics are 1.8MB and I can only send 1.45KB. Wha can I do? When I try using "insert image" it asks for a URL?

Thanks for any help, Stefan

Welcome to iboats. Your best bet for pictures is to upload them to a site like photobucket.com, resize them to the forum-acceptable size of 640x480 and link to them from here.

Re: 1986 liberator 211 restore-transom & stringers

So I am getting ready to start my transom and stringer layup. I plan tabbing with the first layer being 6" and one 8". So it would be 2csm 6" wide then 1 roving 6" wide. Then 1 cms 8" and 1 roving 8", then 2 csm over the whole transom. I am using 1.5 csm and either 18 or 24 roving. Will this work. I plan ondoing the same for the stringer, but using 2 layers of csm only to go over the top and down the sides. I believe this is what the builder at four winns told me. This is more than fou winns used and they only used cms sprayed it. I do need help with this as I will have my family in the boat and don't want problems. I did not plan on using roving over the tops of the stringers except were the motor mounts will go. I planned on tying that into the stringer with roving as well. Or can I just tab the motor mounts in like the stringers and cover the tops with several layers of csm? Please help and thanks,
Stefan
