Hey guys I have a 1986 merc 90 2 stroke that has been running flawlessly untill yesterday. I think the problem is either the fuel pump or maybe water in the gas but I would like to narrow it down more if possible. Thr motor was running fine yesterday then my buddy took the hose and sprayed the boat down while the vent was open on the gas tank and hit it directly but I am not sure if that would allow water in or not. I started the motor after this and started out of the harbor. after about 5-10 min the boat started acting up on me so I punched it to try to get upon plane to get back to my slip and it just died. for a minute I could pump the ball and it would stay stsrted but then it just died. I got a tow back to my slip and I could start the motor in neutral with the throttle up but once I put it in to gear it stalled right out. please help me out. thanks guys.
James

That should work. I would think if you eliminate the source of the water, if that's the problem, you should see improvement right away. Might run a little rough for awhile but a tank of good gas ought to burn up any residual water.

Dave ..
