Re: 1986 Mercury 150 XR2

The fuel/water separating filter should be located aft in an accessible area to facilitate easy filter changing.

It will be spliced into the fuel line somewhere between the fuel tank and the engine.

I personally do not believe all the hype about the need for a 10 micron filter when your engine ran just fine before on a 70 micron filter.

Racor makes a couple of models for outboards just make sure you buy the one for outboard motors in your size range.

QuickSilver (Merc) makes one that uses a 25 Micron filter that is much less expensive. This is what I use now and have never had a problem finding filters like I did with the Racor. I like to change them often.

Theres also a lot of hype about needing a filter that flows 80-90gph... I don't understand why when my V-6 only sucks up 18 gph at WOT.

Confusing huh...

Just go with the QuickSilver and use StaBil Marine and forget about it.

One of the biggest improvements you can do if it will work for you is to remove you're current gas fill and vent and replace it with a Perko fill with the built in vent. Although these are not 100% closed loop they substantially decrease the amount of moisture entering the tank when its venting.

What ever! I guess both my manuals are wrong. My '85 150 XR2 sure likes the Champions better than the NGK's so I guess I'll just keep running the 'wrong' plugs.
What do you mean it likes them better? In what way? As far as I know those plugs should be about the same, just two different manufacturers.
