Hello all, I have the old style fuel pump on my outboard and got the rebuild kit, its it possible to put a electric fuel pump in its place or so they have a conversion out there fo the new stye pump since this one is no longer available except for the rebuild kits, also what is the vacuum pressure i should be reading from this old style pump, Thank you in advance for any help

Welcome aboard.

Electric fuel pumps on 2 strokes aren't safe. If a leak develops, the pump just keeps running until you run out of gas or worse. There is no way to automatically shut off the pump if the motor stops running.

What kind of problems are you having, if any? A check valve kit contains all the parts that can go bad - Gaskets, diaphragm and check valves. That leaves the metal housing, which doesn't wear out.

Boat is coming out fo mothballs after 3 years as my job took me out of state, I believe I have a fuel issue but maybe not The boat starts and idles great and sounds good in the driveway at home but when at the lake and under load it hesitates at higher rpm's pushing the enricher/ choke it runs and comes up on plane but you have to keep pushing the enrichener to keep it going

might need to clean and put new gaskets in tha carbs jus because..

'lectric pumps aren't necessarily "unsafe".. merc did it for years with tha hi perf. models with a lot more pressure than 5 lbs.... was not an option.. they only shut down with key to "off" position...

a small marine pump (3 ta 5 lbs).. powered thru a relay kit summit or tha likes).. power tha relay with tha purple wire on motor.. be sure ta plug tha vacuum hole in tha block.

thank you sir, I have put the kits in all 3 carbs and replaced all fuel lines with new, installed new spark plugs water pump and both the power pack switch boxes new fuel filters as well but have not done the fuel pump thus far, i actually don't have a problem with rebuilding it and was just asking about other options and hoping I was on the right track. I appreciate your response and help, i think I will rebuild this pump and give it another test run and hopefully it will cure my problem, does it sound like it may be my problem or should I need to look at something else?

Has a compression test been done ?----Post your numbers.-----------And check for good spark.-----Now " good spark " is defined as spark that will jump a gap of 3/8" or more with ease.----Those diaphragm fuel pumps are very good and reliable.-----Perhaps do a test run with another tank and hose !

compression on all is 110+112, Spark jumps over an inch away, Bought this boat off the showroom floor in 1986 Ranger 375V has been taken care of very well out board used very little as it was used for fishing mostly and have went through 5 or6 trolling motors but engine hardly has any hours on it

well i am guessing that I messed up as to installing the fuel pump kit and making a trip to the lake for a test run not much difference at higher RPM and now my fuel filter is not holding fuel and when it is pumped up you can watch the fuel slowly drop out of it back in the line, ???
