1986 Mercury 25 HP Outboard - fuel issue

I have a 1986 Mercury 25 HP Outboard that has sat for 3 years

I got it started, but as it runs, after awhile it stalls - if you pump the fuel ball it runs fine - if you ignore the fuel ball, it stalls

any ideas - Thanks...

some more info:

there was a strong "terpentine" odor when the engine first started - like the previous owner did not remove all of the existing fuel for the last storage

if the primer bulb is worked, it runs great...

Sounds like the fuel pump is kaput (needs new diaphrams). I'd clean carbs too.

thats what I thought, was hoping to run it today, but I will most likely order the diaphram, and clean the carbs while I have it open
